History of Bird Aviary

The bird aviary project was initiated by the Capital Development Authority and completed in 2013. Islamabad Bird Park manages the Aviary, which is responsible for caring for the birds’ diet, environment, and health. The facility is made up of vast cages to make sure the birds have ample space for flight. Visitors can also roam freely in the park and watch the birds live in a semi-natural habitat. The park also has Ponds where aquatic birds like ducks can be seen swimming freely.

You can spot small birds like parrots, doves, pigeons, ducks and giant eye-catching birds like peacocks, ostriches, and cranes.


Peacocks, also known as peafowl, are the most beautiful members of the pheasant family. The blue and green peacocks we know are males famous for their 60 inches long, vibrant colored feathers. It’s a tremendous ornamental bird, and everyone seems to be waiting for the peacocks to spread their feathers and reveal the exquisite pattern. The bird aviary is home to several beautiful peacocks and peahens. Peahens are of pearl white color, and they are beautiful in their way.

Pelicans at Bird Aviary

Pelicans are beautiful water birds. There are no thought ports and long beaks used to catch their prey. Pelicans are friendly Birds, but getting close to them may alarm them, and they might react. Australian Parrots

Australian parrots are one of the most famous zoos or bird Aviaries attractions. Their striking and attractive colors have, unfortunately, let them into Cages. The cockatiel species are the most common Australian parrots with 12 tail feathers. They are harmless Birds that will not even cause damage to the trees they built their nest on. Remember to admire them from afar, as they may become aggressive if threatened. 


It also houses the fastest-running birds in the world. Yes, ostriches can run up to 43 mph. Ostriches can reach up to 2.75 meters in height and weigh up to 330 pounds. They live on vegetation but beware of not feeding them as they are strong birds that may become aggressive. They can attack with claws and legs, so you will find them enclosed in the bird aviary. The net walls are tall, but you can easily spot them as they run around, producing a thumping sound.

Turkey Bird

Turkey is another exciting bird also found in the bird aviary. The location of the bird aviary is perfect for turkeys as they prefer living in open woodlands. These are omnivore birds, so don’t be surprised if you see them picking insects and worms from the soil. The bird aviary has some well-fed turkeys. Even though they live in perfect conditions, the administration should consider growing nut-bearing or berry trees to make the environment more favorable.  

Red and Blue Macaws

Macaws are beautiful and brilliantly colored parrots native to Australia. They have vibrant plumage, an exceptional contrast to the central and South African rainforests. These are intelligent and learn new tricks quickly. First, it was found in the Islamabad Bird Aviary, coming in contact with several people daily. Macaws are usually Les vocalized, but once they are excited, they are very noisy and less sensitive to other birds and pets. Most macaws range in length from 76 to 91 cm. Pheasants are slightly larger than quail or Patridge. The bird aviary has a beautiful collection of ornamental pheasants. Pheasants have beautiful colors and graceful walks. Rawal Lake, right next to the bird aviary, offers the best opportunity if you like boating. It is an exciting activity for not only children but also adults. Speed boating is an adventurous and perfect weekend activity for families.

Bird Aviary Timing

It can be visited from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. To make sure the natural habitat of these birds is not disturbed, the Aviary closes a little early, so make sure to visit at a time when you have at least 2 or 3 three hours to explore the facility to the max.
