These cones are a series of mountain tops near the village of Passu, where they get their name. Their shape, their altitude, and their presence are just some things that make these cones stand apart from the rest. Their towering nature gives the surrounding area its gravitas, which adds to the Cones’ beauty and the Hunza valley.

What are Passu Cones?

The Passu Cones are a series of mountain tops in the Gojal Valley of the Hunza district. They are called cones because of their jagged tops, meaning snow does not sit on them for long. It is also why these mountains are sometimes called hot mountains because the ice refuses to stick to them. In addition, several of these mountain tops are close together in the Karakoram Mountain Range, making a cluster. This cluster is then collectively known as cones. They form a unique sight that everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.

Many names refer to these Cones, but the most famous remains are the Passu Cathedral and Mount Tupopdan. The Passu Cones Hunza rise to a total altitude of more than 6000 meters above sea level, making them one of the tallest and most majestic mountains in the North. Moreover, these cones are one-of-a-kind as they are the only mountain tops in Pakistan that don’t accumulate snow for long periods—giving you all the more reasons to visit!
